Project 226. “Project” indicates a work in progress and the Bible tells us in 2 Peter 3:18; “Grow in the grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen.” The 226 comes from our ministry verse, Proverbs 22:6; “Train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
You will find our ministries in the Education Building. Once you enter those doors, you and your family will be greeted by one of our many greeters. As you go down the hallway you will come to the area created for our school aged kids, grades 1-6. We have our activity room with various games and opportunities for creativity where the children gather before heading in our worship area. Once in one of our Sunday School classes or Wednesday night Bible Study, our gifted teachers will build on the foundation of Christ that you’ve established in your home. On further down the hall is our preschool area with dedicated teachers and helpers to see that your child feels welcomed, taught and demonstrated Christs’ love. On Sunday nights we have AWANA. Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. An acronym taken from 2 Timothy 2:15; “Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately.” Each night is full of scripture memorization, a Bible Story time, games and snacks and each child learns at their speed. As they do their work, a “listener” who is dedicated to helping your child, signs their book and they earn awards for their hard work.
The children in this ministry are offered a number of opportunities to not just do for themselves but to reach out to others. Once a quarter FBC does an “I Love Yazoo” day in which each Sunday School class is encouraged to do a project for the community. Throughout the year classes reach out but on this emphasis, we do it as one body. Our children are included and have done such projects as bags of goodies for the city nursing homes. Upon doing this we went together on the bus to deliver the individual bags room by room. We delivered trays of cookies to our fire stations and appreciation bags to our police and sheriff departments. The list goes on as we teach our kids to reach out beyond themselves.
During the summer months, we continue activities on Wednesday night and we call this time our Summer Blast! Each Wednesday consists of a different activity…swim party, movie and popcorn night, Going for the Gold (our own Olympic games), etc, etc. It’s a summer full of fun with a spiritual teaching time intermingled.
